One replay interview, as the moderator saw it

A sample session of the designer arm, tasks in the order T3, T2, T1. In the pause after the third task a script selected the anchors from the research log and prepared this console. At each anchor the participant recalled the event, watched it, and answered its probes; designer probes are marked ◆. Select a row to open it.

Shared vignette (V)

The same fabricated generation event for every participant, presented as coming from another session. The request was "make the sign up button stand out and show how many spots are left for each class". The moderator shows the two states in order.

The gym page before the request: weekday classes with plain sign-up buttons, a weekend program, and an about section
Before
The gym page after the generation: prominent sign-up buttons with spots left, a Become a member button, and an altered weekend program
After

Probes

  1. Talk me through what you see. What changed between the two screens?
  2. Anything else that changed?
  3. What would you do next? Say it exactly as you would type it.
  4. What did the tool do here, in your judgment?

Debrief (D)

The session as a whole, after the vignette.

  1. At any point, did you consider starting over from scratch? What made you stay, or restart?
  2. Outside this study, would you use a tool like this? For what?
  3. What would it take for you to trust what it gives you, without checking everything yourself?
  4. If a tool like this entered your design work, what would it change in how you work?
  5. Did anything in the tool conflict with how you normally work?
  6. Is there anything you expected me to ask and I did not?
